What men can do women can do with a standing ovation! Justice Aloma Mariam Muktar is the first female judge sworn into the bench of the Supreme Court. This elevation attracted cheers, joy and a standing ovation for a woman of distinctive class. Female lawyers and judges thronged the Supreme Court’s ceremonial hall to show their support and solidarity for the first time in history, a woman joined their lordship on that hallow row.

Birth and Education
Justice Aloma hails from Kano State; born in 1944, called to the English Bar in 1966 and later called to the Nigerian Bar in June 1967. She is a thorough legal professional who had served as Pupil State Counsel, Ministry of Justice, Northern Nigeria (1967). Draftsman, Office of the Legal Draftsman, Interim Common Service Agency. Magistrate Grade I, North Eastern Government (1969 – 1973). Chief Registrar, Kano State Government Judiciary (1973 – 1977). Judge – High Court of Kano State (1977). Justice – Court of Appeal (1987). Presiding Justice – Court of Appeal (1993 – 2005)

Justice Aloma a Life Member of the International Association of Women Lawyers, Hon. Justice Aloma Mariam Muktar has been a Justice of the Supreme Court (JSC) since 2005. She is voluble, didactic and supremely confident of her intellectual ability. She is great. By all these achievements, she deserves to be honoured as a distinguished Nigerian.
